The Human Resources Department is charged with managing the Risk Management program and the District’s insurance coverage, including medical insurance, and property and casualty insurance policies. The District is also responsible for monitoring insurance costs and claims.
Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
The District is self-insured through an independent agency; Vantage Benefit Solutions Inc. (VBS) with the customer in mind. With more than 30 years of experience in Insurance and Employee Benefits, VBS, is recognized as one of the most respected Employee Benefit and Insurance firms in Florida.
Human Resources offers a wide range of support services to District employees who participate in one of the District’s two health insurance plan offerings along with dental and vision insurance. These services include enrollment, benefits administration, billing and appointment assistance, and so forth.
The District also offers their employees Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Life Insurance which is managed by Guardian.
The District employees are offered a 457 Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan. The District 457 Deferred Compensation Plan is managed and administered by International City Management Association Retirement Corporation (ICMA-RC). Founded in 1972, ICMA-RC is a non-profit independent financial services corporation focused on providing retirement plans and related services for over a million public sector participant accounts and approximately 9,300 retirement plans ICMA-RC ‘s mission is to help build retirement security for local and state government employees. The 457 plan is a type of non-qualified, tax advantage deferred-compensation retirement plan that is available for governmental and certain non-governmental employers in the United States. The employer provides the plan and the employee defers compensation into it on a pre-tax basis.
Property and Casualty Insurance
The properties, amenities, and programs that are owned and/or operated by the District are insured under blanket coverage through Florida League of Cities. This coverage includes workers compensation, liability, property, and automobile coverage.
