Gateway Services District (GSCDD) has received several calls and emails regarding the localized flooding after recent substantial rainfall events. Staff has been monitoring the drainage system, clearing storm drain grates, and probing catch basin inlets to ensure the absence of blockages. The system is open and is draining effectively to date.
Further, GSCDD has reported drainage issues covered by permitting regulations and code enforcement to the South Florida Water Management District and Lee County Natural Resources.
Both SFWMD and Lee County have responded to the District’s requests and made site visits to inspect drainage concerns. Accordingly, the appropriate entity is following up with developers and private property owners. Rest assured, staff is actively monitoring pond levels, outfalls, inlets, and drainage systems in the Gateway community to ensure that the stormwater system continues functioning properly.
